What’s up with the Office of the Herald anyway?

"I see these crossed trumpets all over the place, but I don’t actually know what a Herald is or what she does. Help me out."

The office of the Herald has many different areas of specialty. They are, in no particular order:

Field Heraldry
This is the person who makes official announcements at events and announces the names of fighters at a tournament. We are always looking for people to assist in this arena. If you will be attending an upcoming event and would like to help out, please contact Lady Chaya Simcha at pursuivant.AT.cynnabar.DOT.org.
Book Heraldry
This includes the study of period names and devices (“coats of arms” and badges) and the SCA requirements regarding submission, registration and use of such.
Court Heraldry
Along with Field Heraldry, this is the most visible aspect of the Herald’s Office. The court herald is the person who plans the agenda for court and acts as the “master of ceremonies” during it – calling people forward, reading scrolls and proclamations, etc.
Courtesy and Precedence
The Herald’s Office is the go-to place for etiquette and assistance with recognition of different nobles and awards.
Help with Submissions
If you have (or don’t have) an idea that you’d like to develop into a full-fledged, registerable SCA name or device (or even if you just need help with the paperwork – the higher-ups can be retentively bureaucratic!), contact the Pursuivant and set up a meeting! Many questions can be answered by email or phone, but sometimes sitting down with a few books can be more rewarding and infinitely more successful.

I am compiling a Cynnabar Roll of Arms, but I can't do it without you!

I request that members of the populace who have devices and badges registered please send me digital copies of said items along with their blazons (if known). I've included a disclaimer, below, if you don't want to write your own. You'll have to fill in your name, obviously. Also, please provide the current email address where you would like us to contact you, if it's different from the one getting the barony list-mail.

If you only have a paper copy of your submission, please bring it to me at a Monday Meeting (if at all possible) and I will take it home, scan it, and get it back to you in a timely fashion (like, normal people "timely" not SCA "timely"). Alternatively, if you can email me the blazon (or a description), I will reconstruct the device to the best of my ability. In this instance, I will still need the release quoted below.

Thank you, in advance, for your participation and assistance! I welcome any and all questions, comments or concerns about this project.

YIS-
Chaya Simcha
